Nigella Lawson's hotly anticipated taste-testing extravaganza of a show, The Taste, rocked up on Channel 4 last night, but it failed to win over a tough Twitter crowd.
So, what's it all about? A cooking competition where flavour is the only thing that matters - It's basically The Voice UK but with giant spoons filled to the brim with delicious food - we're talking braised pig cheek, rack of lamb, prawns, risotto...the business.
There are three 'mentors' including Nigella Lawson, French chef Ludo Lefebvre (who's really, really French according to Nigella) and food writer Anthony Bourdain.
Despite the blind tasting, in-fighting and tasty looking grub, viewers complained that the show was slow and verging on boring. Check out this reaction...
#TheTaste: the most contrived, over-dramatized and pointless food show ever. Since when does one spoonful qualify the quality of a cook?— Love Food Love Drink (@luvfoodluvdrink) January 7, 2014
But die-hard Nigella Lawson fans rallied behind the star who uttered such wonderful phrases as "sinful gratification" in the first 30 seconds. She also hugged wee 18-year-old Scottish chef Dale, who got upset when the mentors slammed his spoon.
Alongside Ludo's horrible attitude and Anthony's "man the f*** up" attitude, there was just enough action to keep us entertained.
Watch The Taste on Tuesday night's at 9pm on Channel 4.
