New research shows major supermarkets are hiking prices to bleed us dry...

A buy one get one free offer at your local supermarket might seem like a great bargain, but new research by Which? has found that stores are rising prices to compensate.

Shops using multi-buy offers are hiking prices for a week prior to their 'sensational discounts', making it seem to customers like they're getting a great deal. Even though you're probably spending more money.

For example, researchers discovered Sainsbury's sold £1 face wipes for £1.80 then had 'half price offer' at 90p. WHAT!

In another case they discovered shoppers at Asda buying two packs of a popular yoghurt during a promotion paid £1 more than if they had bought them beforehand.

So, if you're feeling the pinch in the lead up to Christmas, don't expect your local superstore to help you out.

Eight of the leading retailers have signed up to a new code to deliver honest prices, but Asda refused to adopt the changes. Strange considering their Asda Price Guarantee promise.

Take a look at some more ways your local supermarket is trapping you here...
