Sex tip of the day: 5 things every woman can learn from porn

Don't worry, getting pneumatic boobs is not on the list...

Sex porn, kinky sex
Roughly 99.9% of the population has watched porn to some extent and, whether you agree with it or not, there are a few things we can all learn from it.

Porn isn't supposed to be sex education, it's fiction complete with studio sets and a director saying 'moan now!' into a mega-phone, but that doesn't mean it can't teach us a few sexy ideals. You know, the things we all wish we did between the sheets, but never seem to try.

We're not suggesting you go and get giant fake pneumatic breasts and start making cringe-worthy sex noises to rival Serena Williams on a tennis court. On the contrary, ignore the painfully obvious things (and hairless things) that are thrown in your face and think about some of the finer details.

Here are five things porn can teach us about spicing up our sex lives...

1. There's never a 'safe position'.

You very rarely see porn stars having sex in the missionary position (mainly because you can't see any of the action going on down below), but that's a good thing because they never get 'stuck' in one fail safe position. There's no if-in-doubt-revert-to-the-missionary mentality between their sheets. Try and take the same approach with your partner and you'll soon find that your love life is more exciting.

2. Lubricant is a sex essential

Yes, your body does some of the work naturally, but why not give it a helping hand? Porn stars don't go light on the lubricant because they know it can make sex more comfortable and lead to better orgasms. Take a look at our guide to the best lubes for your sexual mood here.

3. There's no set order to sex

It takes the average woman 20 minutes to become physically warmed-up enough for intercourse, but that doesn't mean intercourse has to be at the end of your bedroom session. Oral sex doesn't have to start before everything else, but after kissing...which comes after you've taken your clothes off, right? WRONG. Forget about all the rules and do whatever the hell you want, in whatever order you want. As long as your both enjoying it, does it really matter?

4. Women don't always need romance for sex

The portrayal of women in porn is a murky issue (and something we're not getting in to here), but one thing it does help to dispel is the myth that all women need to feel universe-altering romance to get down and dirty. Sometimes, just like our penis-clad counterparts, we just want to have sex, to have sex. An orgasm is the only compensation required.

5. Sex is more than just intercourse

The natural result of any sexual encounter is intercourse, but porn proves that couples can have sex without his man bits going anywhere near her lay parts. Viewing sex as more than just intercourse - including oral, massage and role play can make keeping things interesting a whole lot easier. Plus, if you don't feel like intercourse it's a great example of how you can experience feelings of intimacy while keeping your knickers on.
