Just like regular porn can make you go blind (true story), food porn can dull your senses and stop you feeling satisfied with food.

If lattes have lost all their taste, and warming soups are turning your stomach cold - you may be spending too much time on Instagram and Pinterest as a new study has found that looking at lots of pictures of food can ruin your appetite.

'In a way, you're becoming tired of that taste without even eating the food,' said study co-author and Brigham Young University professor Ryan Elder. 'It's sensory boredom - you've kind of moved on. You don't want that taste experience anymore.'

The scientists asked 232 participants to rate photos of food - splitting them into two groups with one looking at sweet cakes and chocolates, the other group at salty snacks.

The findings published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology showed that after staring at the pictures, people were totally disappointed when eating that specific type of food again.

On the flip side - if you want to go on a diet, but just can't resist crisps - taking some time out of your day to look at lots and lots of pictures of bags of delicious salty treats will put you right off.
