Pouring booze into your coffee is so last week, as scientists have now managed to create alcohol from coffee grinds.
This isn't a coffee liqueur, oh no, this is genuine 40% proof booze fermented from coffee.
Scientists at the University of Minho in Portugal used traditional production methods and found by mixing yeast with heated coffee grinds they could then distil a new alcoholic beverage (in much the same way whisky is made from wheat).
Taste testers found the new drink to be 'bitter and pungent' and said it smelt just like coffee. However Time reports that although they found it drinkable, the professional testers recommended ageing the mix to alter the taste.
But before you get too excited about the possibility of caffeinated alcohol, most of the caffeine content is lost in the process. Gutted. Back to the drawing board chaps…
