She admitted, "I'm not a one-night-stand kind of girl" when quizzed about her newly single status after splitting from co-star Ian Somerhalder earlier this year.
When their three year relationship ended Nina turned to her single best friend, dancer and actress Julianne Hough, who recently separated from TV mogul Ryan Seacrest.
But Nina was quick to insist that the pair didn't bond over failed romances and men. She said, "That's not what our friendship is about. Unfortunately, that's how it's perceived, but there's more to us. We don't talk about make-up; we talk about life."
The 24-year-old posed for the cover of the September issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and opened up about coming to terms with her painful break-up.
She revealed, "People aren't defined by their relationships. The whole point is being true to yourself and not losing yourself in relationships, whether romances or friendships."
So what would it take to win a bombshell like Nina Dobrev over?
Well, he'll need to be "old fashioned" with plenty of old school charm.
"A lot of what attracts me is a guy's mind and humour and talent," she said.
"A man in a suit looking put together and dapper is very attractive, but I also link of like the I-just-rolled-out-of-bed, a-little-bit-of-scruff, effortless, not-trying-hard-but-still-sexy guy. I need to know all those things before I fall for someone. I'm not a one-night-stand king of girl. I'm a relationship girl."
Nina will return to the small screen this Autumn in the fifth series of The Vampire Diaries. Despite her split, her character Elena will still be getting busy with Ian's character Damon Salvatore.
