New research suggests 50% of us are made miserable by lacklustre sex lives...

Sex and dating
It turns out that the ability to orgasm is more important to us than love, relationships or sex itself.

According to an 'Orgasm Survey' by Bondara.co.uk 16% of men and 10% of women would end a relationship if they couldn't orgasm with a partner.

The idea that women can fake orgasms When Harry Met Sally-style is pretty entrenched in the minds of couples the world over, but it's not just two thirds of women who are moaning their way to a best actress award.

Apparently men feel so pressured to reach orgasm they only manage it 65% of the time. Consequently 27% of men have at some point faked an orgasm.

How can they manage it?

Well, male ejaculation does not necessarily go hand-in-hand with male orgasm. An orgasm is caused by the rapidly contracting and pulsating muscles in the penis, prostate and pelvic region, while an ejaculation is a spontaneous muscle spasm - A reflex that starts at the base of the spine and causes the ejection of semen.

Men have just learnt to associate the two. This means they can come without experiencing orgasm...With us so far?

More importantly why are we all faking orgasms and struggling to have them?

According to Bondara's research 20% of women and 23% of men said tiredness was the key issue, but self-esteem and body issues ranked a close second. Low libido fell into third place followed by having had one too many beers for blokes.

Sex and relationship expert Joanna Coker, said, "While having an orgasm is a wonderful part of sex, making love can still be enjoyable without the big 'O'. Try not to get too hung up on it as this will only make the situation worse. The ability to have an orgasm is affected by many factors as this survey shows, to be at your sexual peak keep healthy, try not to get overtired and avoid too much alcohol."

Surprisingly one in four men and one in five women rated having regular orgasms as more pleasurable than being in love.

So how can you help each other 'along'?

The majority of women find clitoral stimulation the most effective for orgasm, followed by spending more time on foreplay, more oral sex and introducing sex toys. This just proves how many women struggle to orgasm from sexual intercourse alone.

It's NOT ENOUGH ladies!

The survey revealed that men want more oral sex to finish, followed by spending more time on foreplay and changing sexual positions. There's never been a better excuse to experiment and focus on each others' bodies.
