Ah Coconut Water. With it's magical hydrating properties, high potassium levels and now with added banana pump. Yummers. Millie Mackintosh is a fan – and here's why you should be too...
1. Respect the water
This is coconut juice – not milk people. The milk is where the juice and white pulp is all mushed up together. The water is just the sweet clear liquid found swimming inside young, green coconuts.
2. Hydrate to the max
Commonly used in tropical climates to rehydrate the body – it is a cracking source of electrolytes including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sodium and potassium.
3. It thinks it's a coconut
Dr Antonio Martins Coco Juice has a special extraction method which means the clear water is tapped and packaged without ever seeing light or air. Basically, the juice still thinks it's in the coconut – keeping it fresh and natural.
4. It's low fat
Ok, so it's not as good for you as just drinking water (but nothing is). However it's 99% fat free, cholesterol free, is low carb and free from artificial additives. It's healthier than that diet fizzy pop any day.
5. Your skin will thank you
Fans say it is a slows down ageing and can promote smoother, more youthful skin. It is a natural source of cytokinins – plant hormones that regulate cell growth and ageing. It's hydrating qualities are also good for improving the condition of your skin, and some even argue that dabbing it directly on your body can help reduce acne, cellulite, stretch marks and eczema (but this has no scientific proof just yet).
6. A natural medicine?
The claims for it's health benefits are far and wide reaching – from advocates saying it lowers blood pressure, regulates blood sugar levels, can treat stomach flu and is good for bladder infections. However all of this is hotly debated at the mo. Either way – it tastes lovely.
