High school would have been a much better place if boys like this existed...

Hollywood lied to us. High school was a lot less about big romantic gestures, love songs and dramatic first kisses (preferably in front of the entire school), and more about snogging on the bus and drinking After Shock down the park.

We blame this lack of teen romance for our adult life cynicism and are pretty sure high school would have been infinitely better if boys like this had been there…

1. Cliff Pantone - Bring it on
Also known as one of the best films ever made (fact). She's the head of the cheerleading squad, he's the alternative kid who plays guitar and writes Kirstn Dundst catchy ditties to show his love. You can't beat a boy in a Clash t-shirt who doesn't play by the rules.

2. Edward Cullen – Twilight
Sure, once you get past the whole undead, puts you in harms way, is really really pale thing – Cullen's a total babe. Pretty sure you'd never have found him making out with Lisa from class 8B.

3. Patrick Verona - 10 Things I Hate About You
Oh Heath Ledger. Before his memorable performances in Brokeback Mountain and Batman – Heath belonged to teen girls thanks to playing dark and rebellious Patrick Verona in the classic remake of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew.

4. Paulie Bleeker – Juno
Awkward, adorable and a tad too sensitive - how could you not fall for Paulie and his yellow running shorts?

5. Ferris Bueller - Ferris Bueller's Day Off
If we'd have met fun loving, care free, 'righteous dude' Matthew Broderick in high school - we'd have totally nabbed him before Sarah Jessica Parker.

6. Sam Hall – Day After Tomorrow
Hot nerd Jake Gyllenhaal saves the day for his secret crush and looks awesome in an overcoat in end of time thriller Day After Tomorrow.

7. Josh Lucas - Clueless
Josh may be in university - but as Cher says, 'Searching for a boy in high school is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.' This film single handedly started our obsession with Paul Rudd and knee socks.

WILD CARD: 8. Jesse – Pitch Perfect
Okay okay, not technically high school – but Jesse had to be included. He's super cute, he sings, he's funny, he can rock a hoodie and his love-at-first-sight for Becca makes us just melt. Oh, how we wish Jesse had been the first boy we'd met at university.
