People who love bondage, riding crops and a lot of spanking have a better mental wellbeing than those that just have vanilla sex, suggests new research.

Findings carried out at Tilburg University in the Netherlands found that people that practiced BDSM were well-adjusted, which 'seem contradictory to what the general public and professionals believe,' said author Andreas Wismeijer.

The authors recruited 902 BDSM practitioners and 434 who don't and asked them to fill out personality questionnaure looking at their wellbeing and how they handle rejection and commitment.
