In need of meat? Time to hit one of these fine burger establishments...

Almost Famous Burgers, Manchester
This stealth burger joint isn't fond of signposts, photography, bloggers or ketchup. But they are fond of burgers.

A well-established former pop-up joint, you have to get in via an unmarked entrance. They serve tasty burgers, good booze, and all with a no frills attitude. Enjoy their topical specials such as the 'Barack Oh Baby F*** Yeah Burger' for the US election (which included burgers, chilli and fried chicken 'assembled in presidential style').

Byron Burger, London, Kent, Oxford
If you're over pop-up restaurants and want to go somewhere that you know will stay still, Byron is there for all your beefy needs.

In true New York style, they do great burgers in cool venues, and don't whatever you do forget to order some courgette fries (we count them as one of our five a day).

Swanky Franks, Sheffield
Locally sourced, homemade burgers served in this northern American diner. Wear your stretchy pants as the portions are big and high.

Burger Brothers, Kent
Run by two self-proclaimed 'Kentish foodies', this pop up burger joint in an unassuming back street pub in the seaside town of Deal, Kent – Burger Brothers serves up delicious New York style burgers for you to enjoy alongside your pint of local ale.

Fatboy's Diner, London
One of London's best kept secrets, this original 1941 diner (built in New Jersey) sits in the actual middle of nowhere (well, by London standards anyway), across the river from the Millennium Dome and next to London's only lighthouse.

A bit out of the way, their Fatburger's and the chance to dine in an ageing relic are well worth travelling for. Swill it down with one of their ice-cream shakes.

meat liquor

Meat Liquor, London
Feel like part of the in-crowd at this part burger joint, part dingy underground bar. Meat Liquor does burgers with 'tude. It's dark and grungy with graffiti everywhere and they love their booze as much as they love their beef (clue's in the name).

74 Welbeck Street, London, W1G 0BA, meatliquor.com
