How to make an alcoholic watermelon for a summer party

Getting a big watermelon and filling it with vodka - what could be more refreshing, nay, awesome on a sunny weekend?

But wait - there is a knack to a good drunk watermelon that will elevate you to hero status at your next party.

First you need a big watermelon and a bottle of vodka (other spirits also work well - rum for example).

Take a sharp knife and cut a round hole in the top - keeping the extracted piece as your 'plug'.

Take a teaspoon and scoop out a bit of the exposed watermelon flesh (and eat it, no one likes to waste food).

Next, use a skewer to poke a few holes into the watermelon inside the hole. Be careful not to poke all the way out the other side though.

Carefully begin to tip your chosen spirit into the watermelon hole. But take your time - allow the alcohol to be absorbed into the melon before adding more.

Obviously the more you add, the more alcoholic the melon (duh).

Once your chosen amount of liquor is safely inside the melon, pop the plug back in and stow it away in the fridge for a couple of hours to let the alcohol absorb and the melon to get nice and chilled.

Slice into chunks and let the party begin.

Top tip: Opt for a seedless melon if possible - as the seeds will absorb some of the precious booze and then be thrown away.
