Colin Firth nearly missed out on playing Darcy because of his ginger hues...

BBC executives initially rejected Colin Firth for the iconic role of Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice because he had ginger hair, according to writer Andrew Davies.

Luckily for us, Colin was eventually given the role after bosses realised, oh yeah, we can just buy some hair dye from Boots! Seriously, how would we cope without THAT wet shirt scene...

Writer Andrew Davies, who adapted Pride and Prejudice for the BBC, and Alan Yentob, then BBC One controller, didn't want to cast Colin because they deemed him 'not handsome enough'. Oh, we beg to differ. TV executives also had an issue with the ginger hue of his hair.

So, this got us thinking, what's the deal with ginger? We think there are loads of hunky TV and film actors out there who just happen to have red hair. They're a dying breed - shouldn't we be preserving the wonderfulness of copper-toned locks?

In the interest of saving our genetic heritage we'd happily procreate with these handsome blokes and continue their ginger legacy...It's the least we can do, for the good of human kind, yaddah yaddah yaddah...
