From that kiss in The Notebook to Bella and Edward's passionate first embrace in Twilight, there's nothing like a perfect, heart-stopping movie kiss to make you feel like the world is not such a bad old place.
A few points to note if you fancy trying to recreate these film snogs at home:
1. The rain tumbling down will make passions run higher and take kissing to a new level.
2. Upside down kissing is not to be advised (unless, of course, you really are Spiderman).
3. Background music is vitally important and can entirely change the mood. Try watching the clips or, indeed, kissing along with U2's With or Without You, One Direction's Kiss You or Kiss the Rain by Billie Myers. See what we mean?
4. If you want a good smooch it helps if you're not acting and really actually like your squeeze. Many of the best on-screen kisses involved actors who were actually involved in real life. Kirsten Stewart and Robert Pattinson, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, it seems that life really does imitate art.
So pucker up and enjoy being warmed up on the inside with the 10 most tender, romantic and utterly enchanting on-screen movie smooches....
It's long, drawn-out, intense, full of panting and a little bit dangerous...
2. Gone with the Wind
This classic movie is littered with romantic clinches, but none so dramatic than the first time Rhett and Scarlett lock lips. With Atlanta burning fiery red behind them, the audacious but enchanting Rhett Butler plants one on Scarlett and is thanked with a slap across the face.
3. Four Weddings and a Funeral
There it is, the rain again! Love was certainly all around for Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell when the pair finally said "I Do" and embraced in the pouring rain on Hugh Grant's doorstep.
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Ron and Hermione head off to the Chamber of Secrets to destroy the Horcrux cup. They succeed at their task, get soaked by a wave of water (there, more water!) and finally share a kiss. The sweetest thing about this kiss is the little knowing laugh they share afterwards. Okay, it's not the steamiest moment but gets maximum cuteness points. Aww.
5. Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet
The whole film was a visually spectacular assault on the senses; a beautiful, hip update of a classic for the MTV generation. A young, ethereal and fresh looking Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes were perfectly cast and the pairing's first clandestine kiss to the stunning soundtrack of Des'ree's Kissing You is a moment that will go down in the film kiss hall of fame.
6. Breakfast at Tiffany's
Set is a gritty, filthy New York alleyway, Holly (Audrey Hepburn) and Paul (George Peppard) share a classic Hollywood kiss - yup, there it is again, the pouring rain. We've been assured that no animals were hurt in the making of this movie but we're not so sure that the little cat stuck in the middle of that passionate embrace wasn't a few inches thinner and longer by the end of the kiss.
7. The Notebook
So iconic, so moving and so beautiful, there's a lot to be said for changeable weather.
It sparked a thousand pranks and even a tribute from The OC, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst's upside-down kiss in a torrential downpour is one creative, iconic smooch. It was memorable, for Spiderman for all the wrong reasons, "The whole time I had rainwater running up my nose," he said. "Then, when Kirsten rolled back the mask, she cut my air off completely."
9. From Here to Eternity
The ultimate adulterous beach frolic, Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr's roll in the waves caused widespread outrage in its time for being so risqué. It's worth checking out for the retro swimwear alone and we're guessing it paved the way for generations of holiday makers to get sand where it really shouldn't be found.
10. Crazy Stupid Love
A feisty woman. Check. Torrential rain. Check. Smart yet to the point chat. Check. A funky soundtrack. Check. Yup, all the ingredients for a perfect on-screen kiss made it to Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's earth-stopping snog.
