It's 1946 and Errol Flynn washes up on the island. Ida Joseph, the teenage daughter of Port Antonio's Justice of the Peace, is intrigued to learn that the 'World's Handsomest Man' is on the island, and makes it her business to meet him. Doing so, she sets her heart on marrying the charismatic older man who has made a decadent home for himself. Marry him she does not, but she does bear him a daughter, May, who meets her father but once. A fantastic tale of passion and recklessness, with a deliciously romantic story line enhanced further with the vivid descriptions of life for the island's residents over three generations.

The Pirate's Daughter by Margaret Cezair-Thompson, £3.86 from Amazon.co.uk
