Soulwax return with an album of genre-defying reworks of other people's songs

What's the story?
Belgium's never had a reputation for being one of the world's coolest places, has it? But what you might not know is that for the last 10 years or so it's been the scene of some of modern music's biggest leaps forward. The reason for this is Soulwax. Since they appeared on the scene, first as a rock band, then DJs, then remixers for hire, they've been pushing things forward. Next time you see them thank them for mash ups, electro house and nu rave - they more or less started all these new styles. Most of their headlines have come from their pioneering remixes, all collected here. Don't worry if you haven't heard of them before though, you'll have heard of the people they've remixed: Gossip, Kylie and Sugababes have all been given the Soulwax treatment and frankly sound better for it!

So what are the good ones?
If you watched Channel 4 recently you'll have heard the band's overhaul of Gossip's Standing In The Way Of Control on their adverts for Skins. Elsewhere DJ Shadow's Six Days, Kylie's Can't Get You Out Of My Head and Gorillaz Dare all sound great.

Any duff tracks?
There are a few duff originals. Who'd really skip through a CD to get to Robbie Williams' Lovelight? Of course no one would, but add Soulwax Ravelight Dub after it in brackets and suddenly you have a complete winner.

Worth buying?
Absolutely. Not only do you get the remixes but there's also a genius 2ManyDJ's (the name Soulwax go under for their DJ sets) mix album to accompany it. Thank you Belgium!
