Find out what’s in store for the heroes and villains in season 3

Heroes season 3 preview : Entertainment on handbag.comHaving barely drawn breath since the abrupt ending of Heroes season 2, the all-powerful bunch are already limbering up for their return on 1 October 2008.

When we last saw the gang, Sylar had just regained his powers, Nathan had been shot, Niki was trapped in a burning building and poor old Caitlin was still lost in the future.

So what can we expect from Heroes season 3? Well, it will be much longer than season 2 for a start; 23 episodes will span two ‘volumes' - the first of which, Villains, will see a whole host of new of nasty pasties joining the show as well as some old favourites crossing over to the dark side.

Heroes season 3 preview : Entertainment on handbag.comAccording to reports, volume 2 will be entitled Fugitives. No other secrets have been spilled about the second half of the season so far, but check back here for regular updates.

So what's the big save this year, you may ask? They've saved the cheerleader, they stopped New York from exploding, they've prevented a killer virus from wiping out half the earth's population - so what's next?

Well, from what we can gather after watching a sneak preview of episode one, it looks as like the ‘normal' people are out to get our Heroes. It's all about power you see... who has it, who wants it and who has the means to get it.

Don't miss Heroes season 3 on BBC2, Wednesdays at 9pm.
