Handbag meets An Education's Carey Mulligan and Dominic Cooper
Carey Mulligan admits that she didn’t realise she was the lead role in An Education
Rising star Carey Mulligan has admitted that she didn’t realise that she had taken on a lead role for her new film An Education, and just thought she was a part of a big ensemble.
“Weirdly I never thought about it like that. I didn’t think it was a lead part really. And then I was like, ‘Oh, ‘I’m here a lot, I’m really tired, I haven’t been home in ages.’ So then I was like, ‘Oh, I’m in it tonnes,’” Carey told us, before adding, “The first time I really thought about it was a couple of days before we went to Sundance, and I thought, ‘Crikey! If this does really bad it’s all my fault.”
Co-star Dominic Cooper also sings Carey’s praises in an interview with handbag.com. “I think it says it all that she didn’t realise that, because it’s not what she cares about. She’s there to do the work and do the best job that she could,” before adding, “It’s awful when that gets in the way, and people start going, ‘Oh, what number am I on the film’
“It was amazing working with her… to be part of her taking on her first lead role in a film and to watch her do it with such delicacy and perfection.”
