What's the story?
Set in the 1990s during Sierra Leone's civil war, this thriller is about fisherman Solomon (Djimon Hounsou) and a Zimbabwean former mercenary Danny (Leonardo DiCaprio) who join up to hunt for a rare pink diamond that could change their lives, and that of those around them including Solomon's son who has been enlisted as a child soldier.

Best bit?
The cast – that also includes the excellent Jennifer Connelly as a journalist who gets involved in their plight - are all excellent but it's Hounsou who is really memorable.

Worst bit?
Deeply affecting in some parts, it's a tad too slick a Hollywood thriller to really bite.

Perfect for?
People who want to know where their engagement ring could well have come from.
