Detox diet

If you're all stressed out and your body is feeling the strain, try this quick energy fix to detox your body and give you a boost.

Bottles of waterDay one: Clear the system
Drink plenty of water or fresh fruit juice to substitute alcohol, and cut out tea and coffee. Eat a very light breakfast, have pasta with a veggie sauce for lunch and for dinner a light salad with fish in the early evening.

Put on your trainers and go for a long, brisk walk - for at least two hours. This does not include walking around the shops!

Day two: Rebuild your body
Cut out the fruit juice and have as much water as you can today - still no alcohol, tea or coffee. Fresh fruit for breakfast, green salad for lunch with an oil-free dressing, steamed fish with vegetables for dinner.

If you are a member of a local fitness club, try a yoga class to clear out toxins from the body and get the bowels moving. Stretching is a great way to rid the body of toxins. If you're not a yoga fan, try a few simple stretches…

Stretches
1. Stand in front of a chair, place one leg on the seat, keeping it straight, and bend the supporting leg. Reach forward and place the hands on the leg or the seat of the chair and hold for 15 seconds, then change legs.

2. Lying on your stomach, pull one heel to your buttocks, keeping your hip bones on the floor and your buttocks squeezed. Hold for 15 seconds and then change legs.

3. Sit with your legs apart and reach your hands to one foot so that your body is rotating at an angle. Try and keep your legs straight, but without locking the knees. Hold for 15 seconds and then reach for the other foot.

Day three: Back to full fitness
Nearly there! Just drink water and eat fruit all day - if you can manage it - for that one last blitz. You will feel hungry and maybe a little shaky, so try not to do anything too energetic. Have a sorting-out day, or occupy your time to distract you away from food. If you go out, take a banana with you, just in case.

Feeling great!
The day after your three-day detox you should wake up feeling full of energy, hungry and clear-headed, so make the most of it. Today you can reintroduce rice, pasta, salad and a cup of tea or coffee into your diet - or even have a glass of wine if you must.

Go to the shops and pick up a slinky number that will motivate you to keep your body lean and healthy. And give yourself a body scrub. Your glowing skin will match your glowing insides!
