Announcing the sad news, police said the former model was found hanging from a scarf on a doorknob by her assistant, in what authorities are assuming to be suicide attempt.
Though the Medical Examiner's Office will determine an official cause of death, police have said they don't suspect foul play, despite there being no suicide note.
L'Wren's Twitter account has been causing confusion, with tweets continuing to be posted today, but it's thought her account also uses an auto-publishing system, which is yet to be turned off.
Mick Jagger is currently on tour in Australia with the Rolling Stones, though his spokesperson has confirmed in a statement that "Mick is completely shocked and devastated."
Fashion friends including Marc Jacobs have posted tributes to L'Wren on Twitter, expressing their grief and sadness.
Rest in peace, L'Wren Scott. You'll forever be missed.— Marc Jacobs Intl (@MarcJacobsIntl) March 17, 2014
So sad. Our thoughts are with her friends and family.
Though friends and family are said to be totally shocked by L'Wren's suicide, reports have claimed that the designer's business was heavily in debt, and that she was recovering from a self-harm incident just weeks earlier.
