Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt were on universe-saving form as three incarnations of the Doctor in the extra special Day Of The Doctor 50th anniversary episode, but did it deliver?

With Billie Piper as Rose Tyler back in action alongside Peter Capaldi and Joanna Page (as a slightly Welsh Queen Elizabeth I), the episode was packed with mind-bending, parallel universe, cosmic painting-filled ups and downs.

Whovians were treated to a back catalogue of famous quotes from previous episodes, including David Tennant's heart-wrenching "I don't want to go".

So, what was the plot? Well, we kinda' reckon you need to watch it to understand fully, but here goes...The Doctor (John Hurt) remembers making the horrifying decision to kill his people and destroy his home planet of Gallifrey to save the Universe.

But by teaming up with his future reincarnations, Matt Smith, David Tennant and the rest of the Doctors (including Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi) change history and save the planet by suspending it in a painting. But can it be rescued and restored?

We're already counting down to the Christmas episode!

We got pretty excited on Twitter, but these super fan 'Whovians' kind of pushed the excitement boat out. Take a peek at some of our favourite Tweets...
