Sorry drama seekers, there was no 'creative differences' with the production team, and not even those bat-sh*t crazy fans could drive him away; it was all down to a good old fashioned scheduling conflict.
"I don't think people have had unchaperoned access to me since all of this went on," he told a Fox TCA press conference. "The CliffsNotes were exactly what we said. I couldn't do it because of [the] schedule. It was as simple as that."
Despite saying it was 'heartbreaking', Hunnam reveals there are no hard feelings.
"I'm just really excited to see it. I was just really, really invested and wanted to work with [director] Sam (Taylor-Johnson) and play that character. I'm really, really curious," he added.
Last October when Hunnam walked away from the role to be replaced by fellow Brit actor Jamie Dornan, he said, "when I wrap [Sons of Anarchy], I am going to go to England and see my people and then I have a film that I am doing with Guillermo [del Toro]. So I am going to go and do that and concentrate on the final seasons of Sons…I just want to finish that strong and go on to a new chapter of life."
The film adaption of Fifty Shades is due for release in February 2015, but fans are expected to get a trailer reveal this week. Especially as Beyoncé of all people already teased it on her Instagram.
But are you already over it? Vote:
Are you over Fifty Shades of Grey?
No, never, I can't wait for the film and I love Christian Grey. LOVE HIM. Yeah, I loved the books - but I'm bored now. So over it I was never under it. Or something. Whatever, it's lame.
