The internet went crazy when Charlie was cast as the handsome sexual deviant. Some disgusted fans created an online petition to get Charlie and his co-star Dakota Johnson evicted from their roles.
Take a look at how some hilarious and OTT fan reactions to Charlie's casting here.
But now all those fans will be jumping for joy because Charlie has been forced to pull out due to scheduling issues.
In a statement on Deadline, Universal said, "The filmmakers of Fifty Shades Of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
Hhhhhmm, right. Well surely Charlie checked his 'immersive schedule' before he took the role? We can't help but wonder whether the cast and crew are feeling the heat from fans of the book, forcing Charlie to drop out.
Initially we thought Charlie would be a good fit. But alas, we'll never get to see him in 'seduction mode'. Sob.
Even E. L. James seemed cagey about the whole situation. But she did want Robert Pattinson to play the role, so maybe she's happy too...
I wish Charlie all the best. x— E L James (@E_L_James) October 12, 2013
