Amanda Bynes has been refused permission to leave forced psychiatric hold after doctors confirmed she is 'being treated for schizophrenia'.
Amanda requested to leave the hospital she was placed in after setting a driveway on fire, but doctors believe she needs serious help and specialist treatment for schizophrenia.
During a hearing at the Californian Psychiatric Centre the presiding judge was told Amanda Bynes wanted to be released from 'involuntary hold' to return to her normal life. However, doctors strongly argued against this saying the 27-year-old is too ill to leave.
The judge took the side of the doctors, agreeing that the teen star needs more time on her new medication.
Although her medical team have stated schizophrenia as the preliminary diagnosis, a more formal diagnosis of Amanda's illness will be provided to her loved ones in the next few days.
An insider told RadarOnline that Amanda isn't responding well to new medications. They said, "Reports that said she was responding well to the psychiatric drugs that were being given to her are wrong. It can take months, or even years to get someone like Amanda to find the right drug combination and then get her therapeutic."
They added, "The good news is that schizophrenia is treatable. It's a very serious diagnosis, but Amanda can live a long and healthy life, as long as she takes her prescribed medications. She can function in society and still work."
Amanda was placed in a psychiatric centre after she set fire to a driveway last week. Her behaviour has been described as 'erratic' and she apparently became convinced that her parents would try and kill her pet dog. Her anxiety led to her being physically restrained and sectioned.
Despite her strange behaviour, Amanda has reportedly tested negative for all illegal drugs except marijuana.
Now her parents are seeking a conservatorship over their daughter. This means they can ask a California judge to grant them power over her personal and financial issues until she can take care of herself.
