Ellen DeGeneres will host the 2014 Oscars ceremony according to official reports.

The famous chat show host will front the 86th annual Academy Awards - one of the highlights of the Hollywood calender.

The star announced the news on Twitter, saying...

Ellen has previously hosted the Oscars in 2007 and she's also appeared at the Primetime Emmy Awards several times. Safe to say she's a seasoned awards show pro!

Oscars producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron said, "We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars. As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars.

"There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are."

Last year, Family Guy and Ted actor, Seth MacFarlane hosted the ceremony, but critics were torn by his performance. Tina Fey and her friend Amy Poehler were also rumoured to be performing at the event, but insiders believe they will return instead to the 2014 Golden Globes.

The 86th Academy Awards will air from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on ABC on 2 March, 2013.
