Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh has admitted she burst into tears when she read the script for her character Hayley's tragic exit from the show, due to air later this year.
The actress will be leaving her role as Hayley Cropper to move forward with other acting projects.
Julie admits that it wasn't easy to read the script that charts Hayley's horrible terminal cancer diagnosis.
Speaking to the Daily Express, she said, "The day I got the scripts I just sat in bed and cried. My husband kept having to bring me cups of tea.
"I was in bed all afternoon going through them and I kept reading bits out to him and he was getting tearful too.
"The scripts cover the period where Hayley finds out she's got cancer and tells Roy (David Neilson) and Carla (Alison King). They are beautiful - absolutely perfect - but I cried all day. I knew they were going to be painful to film."
Julie admitted that it will be difficult to say goodbye to the character that she's been playing for 15 years.
She continued, "Hayley is part of me and I'm sorry I'm doing this to her. I'm really upset that Hayley is dying because I love her."
