We might not be able to watch him run tirelessly around a football pitch in short shorts working up a sweat any more, but at least he'll be returning to our TV screens - as a kids TV presenter!
Yep, David's beautifully constructed face will be glaring out of your telly box every Saturday morning all thanks to a special role on Sky Sports' Game Changers, where the ex-England football captain will host a regular football master-class slot.
Olympic hero Jessica Ennis-Hill and Paralympic wheelchair rugby captain Steve Brown will also play a role, while sprinter Darren Campbell and presenter Di Dougherty will serve as hosts.
Because he's a fitness fanatic, of course the show will be about inspiring kids to take up sports and be athletic superheroes just like him. Well, something like that..
Speaking to TVBiz, David said, "It's an ambition of mine to inspire more young people to take part in sport. I'm excited to be one of a great group of athletes contributing to Game Changers and working with Sky, who have the passion to make it happen."
Game Changers will air every Saturday at 9am starting from 17 August.
