Coronation Street's Hayley Cropper, played by Julie Hesmondhalgh, will be diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in a shocking storyline that will mark the end of Julie's 15 year run in the soap.
Hayley will learn the devastating news that she has only months to live next week.
Actress Julie Hesmondhalgh, 43, announced earlier this year that she was leaving the show after making history as the ITV soap's first transsexual character.
In the end, Corrie bosses decided there was only one way to separate Hayley and Roy Cropper for good.
On 22 July, Hayley will be called in to see her doctor after a routine medical test shows up some abnormalities. Later she'll be diagnosed with potentially fatal stage 2 pancreatic cancer.
Julie admitted, "'I do remember reading the scripts for the first time and being inconsolable. Every single page, I was heartbroken because it's a really strange thing. She's not me, but she's a massive part of me. She's been a huge part of my life for over 15 years."
In true Hayley style, she's more worried about how her hapless husband Roy will cope with the news. Soap bosses have promised there will be tears and laughter as Hayley's storyline is played out over the course of the year.
