What's the film about?

The film follows a dangerous but charismatic fugitive hiding out from bounty hunters on a remote island on the Mississippi.

He's found living in a boat in a tree by two young boys who become helpers in his quest to escape his hunters so he can be reunited with his long-time love, Juniper.

Who's in it? Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon

Handbag hearts:

Gosh Matthew McConaughey has totally made the transition from rom-com hunk to amazing serious actor hasn't he?

This film is just a big chance for him to shine in a role that is a bit weird but still lovable.

While we definitely still appreciated the topless moments, it's proof that Matthew is so much more than his hot bod when we were paying more attention to what he was saying and doing.

Can you imagine?

Meanwhile, Reese Witherspoon makes a nice enough cameo in the film though her character isn't exactly going to be your favourite person in the world.

Complaints:

The film is pretty long. You will need to plan a good time for a toilet break type of long.

Luckily the drama at the final 20 minutes of the film make up for the less exhilarating moments of film.

Verdict: One for fans of Matthew who are enjoying his growth into serious dramatic acting. 3 stars

P.S. We wish we were as free to play around like these kids! We want a boat...

Mud is out in cinemas now.
