We have already seen the coldest Easter ever but it seems the the lack of sunshine is set to continue as we're about to brace ourselves with the coldest April on record.
So what is actually going on? And isn't global warming supposed to make it hotter?
Global warming is making certain parts of the world hotter but it's also making the UK colder. How? Let us get our science teacher hat on. The rising temperature around the globe warms up the Arctic Ocean creating a high pressure system that pushes very cold air into low pressure areas like Europe, China and some parts of America.
Our winters are only going to get colder and last longer.
So how are we going to stop global warming and get some non climate change affected heat in our lives? Without going all 90s on you, here are a few tips to save the planet from a literal meltdown:
1. Recycle and cut down on waste. Think about it, do we really need to chop down another tree (that helpfully sucks up CO2 and breathes out oxygen) to make your favourite magazine? No, we can re-use the old one
2. Replace your light bulbs into low energy bulbs. You save some cash and you help reduce greenhouse gases
3. Turn off from the mains instead of leaving your electrical goods on standby. Saves electricity and your bill
4. Plant a tree. It helps reduce carbon monoxide in the air and you will feel good about yourself!
5 Try to eat local food. It reduces food miles. And, do you really want your chicken flown in from Thailand? Always check the label.
