Ryan Gosling has revealed that he is "uncomfortable" with his pin-up status because he struggles with being compared to the Hollywood poster boys he used to hate.
The Crazy Stupid Love actor also revealed that he has had his abs "photoshopped" for films in the past to make him more appealing.
When asked how he felt about being seen as a heartthrob he said,"I'm as uncomfortable with it as I am talking about it.
"I know from just being a guy and looking at a billboard and you're like, 'That guy's not a sex symbol. They're trying to sell that on us? No way! That's never gonna stick.'
"And then suddenly he's like a huge deal and you can't believe it. I used to hate on those guys and now I am one."
The hunky actor went on to say that he owes a lot of his success to good genes and CGI enhancements.
He added, "It's the only reason for it! It's the only thing I got."
Ryan has no problem admitting that his stomach was "absolutely photoshopped".
He added, "And as a by-product you have to talk about your abdomen to complete strangers on a daily basis.
The actor was keen to point out just how much helps actors get when playing a role on the big screen.
He explained, "I mean, film romanticizes people.
"And people associate you with the roles you chose. They cut out all the bad bits, you come to set and they put make-up on you and nice clothes, and they put music underneath what you're saying, and it's not fair. It's not fair to everyone else."
Gangster Squad hits cinemas on 11 January 2013.
