Wedding service provider MarryAbroad.co.uk has recorded a 15% rise in the number of couples jetting off to sunnier climes for their big day.

According to their experts, couples are shunning the standard UK wedding season (May to September) in favour of tying the knot out of season to save money.

Christmas-themed weddings in places like Iceland, Canada and Copenhagen are currently on the rise, while wedding planners in Thailand have also seen a massive increase in inquiries from UK couples.

The top 10 most popular destinations for couples in 2012 are shown below...

1. Italy
2. Greece
3. Thailand
4. Spain
5. France
6. Canada
7. South Africa
8. Malta
9. Czech Republic
10. Sri Lanka

So, if you're thinking of escaping the iffy British weather for some slightly more exotic nuptials, here are a few things you need to consider...

Guest List

You and your partner might be ecstatic at the idea of escaping to Italy for your wedding, but what about your aunties, uncles, friends and grandparents. If you've always dreamed of a big white wedding, would you be willing to sacrifice on the number of guests? And how would you feel if someone said they couldn't come? All of this is worth considering before you make concrete plans.

Clashing

Getting married out of season in winter sun locations means there's less risk of a wedding clash - especially if you've got a large circle of family and friends. Plus you won't be competing with other brides for resources like flowers, venues, cars and photographers.

Language barrier

Even if you've organised the venue, you need to think about the flowers, the cake and the transport in advance whilst taking into account the language barrier and the distance. You may save hundreds of pounds in comparison to a traditional British wedding, but be prepared to put more work in to the organisation.

Double wedding

Getting married in some countries won't actually make your marriage legal in the UK, so you'll need to take part in a registry office service in the UK. This could mean getting married before or after your big day. Be sure to double check the legalities in your chosen destination before you go...
