Dance scenes are vivid, memorably, heart-warming and in some cases awe-inspiring! Over the years, certain clips have made history, becoming iconic and instrumental to the film's success.
With Step up 4: Miami Heat out on DVD, what better time to review the most impressive dance scenes from the big screen?
Dirty Dancing- I've had the time of my life
You know this 1987 dance flick had to get a mention. Frances "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) and Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) give quite the performance, symbolising Frances's transition from a girl to a woman.
Grease- You're the One That I Want
There's no way this 1978 classic couldn't make our list. Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta and the rest of the Grease cast will forever be remembered for the songs and dance numbers—especially this jump-and-jive number.
Pulp Fiction- The twist
John Travola and Uma Thurman's scene in the twist contest wasn't just a music-fuelled diversion. His smooth, understated twists to Chuck Berry's You Never Can Tell were effortless cool. Certain moves became iconic and have often been mimicked in films and TV shows ever since.
Singin in the rain- Singing in the rain
Not only is this song remembered by all, so is Gene Kelly's beloved singing and dancing in the rain, during this scene from the 1952 romantic musical. His tap skills are impeccable, and you can't help but smile while watching this moment.
Napoleon Dynamite- Assembly hall
In just one dance Napoleon rises from school nerd to near heroic status. It's a strangely hypnotic, brave demonstration of skills.
Look out for part 2 where we relive even more epic dance scenes.
