Lucinda Ellery, hair extension specialist and founder of National 'No-Pulling' Week, will be with us all week talking about Trichotillomania...
"It's the last day of our blog about Trichotillomania (or TTM) and the end of National 'No-Pulling' Week.
I hope you've found this information enlightening, interesting and in some cases inspiring. I also hope that if you are suffering in silence and hiding your dark secret, you decide today to do something about it and open up to a close friend, family member, GP or me. Go on, what have you got to lose?
I am sure you have been surprised by the sheer numbers of people who are touched by TTM and I hope you will now feel more comfortable approaching the subject with anyone you think might be suffering.
I believe it is vital to have more education on TTM. Through my work, I am now pushing for information to be made available in schools, where the condition often starts. By making parents, teachers and carers more aware of the symptoms of TTM, we can catch youngsters with the condition before any permanent damage is done. The sooner sufferers seek help, the more likely they are to achieve complete hair regrowth.
And finally, if you take anything away from this week, I would like it to be that you can get better. Start daydreaming of a full head of fabulous hair and walk towards that dream. It can be done and I am lucky enough to see it happen every day. I know thousands of amazing women who manage their TTM and they continually inspire me.
