Rutgers University in the United States have started a 'Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé' course that uses her pivotal career moments to 'explore American race, gender, and sexual politics'.

The course hit the news back in January when it was announced, but it is now underway. Students of the Beyonce university are actually learning.

"I want my students to become more conscious of pop culture and what they're consuming every day," explains the course leader, PhD student Kevin Allred, a lecturer in the school's Department of Women's and Gender Studies (and Beyonce fan).

"I hope people begin to appreciate what Beyoncé is doing in terms of feminism and what she represents for race and gender."

So, our mad karaoke skills are not necessary then? Oh. Instead, students will be reading literature by prominent black feminists, including Octavia Butler and bell hooks.
