Meryl Streep has spoken about the shock decision by the Academy Awards to not nominate her friend Emma Thompson for an Oscar.

In many categories the Oscar nominations were the exact same as the Golden Globes, not Best Actress.

Emma Thompson was nominated at the Globes for her role in Saving Mr Banks but was left off the call sheet at the Oscars.

Meanwhile Meryl got the nod for her role in August: Osage County.

Speaking on Ellen she said, ""I was really shocked. And I wrote her a long, heartfelt email saying how bad I felt. And she wrote me back and said, 'Good.'"

Continuing with regards to her own nomination she said she "didn't think [she] had a chance, I'm so old news...There were so many performances this year that were great... there were a lot of surprises and injustices [in the nominations]."

We absolutely love that two such talented women, in such a competitive industry, are happy to support one another.

Take note ladies, having friends at work is much better than having enemies.
