A social media campaign promises to get female authors the buzz they deserve, but will it convince you to change your book-buying habits?

New research by the Vida: Women in Literary Arts organisation has shown that female authors don't get the same coverage as men in literary journals.

Books by women are published in similar numbers to books by men, but female authors are still stuck at the back of the line. Why?

To try and tackle this head on, the #readwomen2014 campaign has kicked off on Twitter.

Writing in the Guardian, Joanna Walsh thinks the problem lies in 'girly covers' that are immediately designed for female writers even if they've produced a gritty thriller.

Campaigners hope the social push will encourage readers to find a brilliant female voice that's not necessarily listed in the review pages. This lovely lady has the whole thing wrapped up...
