Epping, Essex. The end of the Central line and where our wedding will take place

I'm pleased to announce that Mr M and I have confirmed with Gaynes Park!

Epping sign post
Our venue visit went very well and and we now have an official date. Sunday 16 March 2015, completely different to the last plan! We followed my mum's advice and visited another venue and I'm so glad we did, we completely fell in love with it.

Gaynes Park is in Epping, home of the famous Epping Forest as well as pop royalty Rod Stewart and erm, soap actors Nick Berry and Jessie Wallace. And now, home of the Shackleton/M wedding. #Exciting.

What's so appealing about the venue itself is that the 50 minute drive from home takes us through beautiful countryside for miles and as a result, you would never guess that Epping even has its own tube stop, at the very end of the Central line. Great for our London based guests - I didn't think the tube even went out that far!

Immediately after our visit I called my Dad to tell him that we had found THE venue and I was surprised that he had been online to look at both venues (he doesn't do 'online' and is so old school, he can't even send a text) and said that he preferred Gaynes Park to the original venue we had chosen. Firstly, I nearly fell off my chair when he said he'd been online and secondly, I was surprised that he hadn't thought to tell me that he disliked the first venue. I dread to think that our guests may have felt the same way had we of gone with our original choice – phew.

At present, we are in the process of cobbling together our deposit in order to secure the date and venue – not great timing as we're about to swan off on holiday. Being more costly than we originally budgeted for, we've made the uncomfortable decision to reign in holidays until the wedding in order to save, save save.

I'm so pleased that we have a beautiful wedding venue and a date set. I have 4 gorgeous bridesmaids and have 2 of my best friends lined up to do a reading and my younger brother happy to give me away. Once we've paid the deposit I really do hope I can relax and forget about the wedding itself and focus on my 'Banish the back fat' mission once again!
