We caught-up with Tom Bunkham, recruitment expert at reed.co.uk to find out his top tips for coping with a 'career crossroads'.
Think about why you want to change careers. And why now?
Switching jobs can be unpredictable, especially if you've already got a great job in your current field. Ask yourself why you want to change now. Is it because you're bored, unhappy or ready to fulfil your lifelong dream?
Improve your current position by asking for more responsibility
If you love your company, but hate your job, you probably just need to find your job passion again. If your work has become repetitive, maybe it's time to have an open and honest conversation with your boss about finding new challenges.
How to cope if you feel under appreciated
Recognition comes in a number of different forms. Sometimes it's as simple as being given credit for a job well done. It could also come from career progression, promotion or from financial rewards. If you've been at the company for a number of years, it might be time to ask for a pay rise.
Don't blame your job for other life stress
There are many good reasons for re-evaluating your career, but you have to make sure you're doing so for the right reasons. Ask yourself some tough questions. Are you bored with other aspects of your life? Are you focusing the blame on your work? Consider what you're passionate about, what you're capable of, and what will be financially viable for you.
