Remember when Joey had to perfect his gracious loser face in Friends? What are we saying - of course you do. Well there comes a time when everyone needs to pull their own gracious loser face out the bag. Because life's not fair.

So how do you come across well when all you want to scream that you were robbed?

How to be a good loser

1. Perfect your calm face

Imagine your face is full of Botox and even if you wanted to, you couldn't frown, cry or throw a tantrum. All you can do is smile passively and nod. Too much and it looks fake, too little and everyone thinks you're a jerk.

2. Say congratulations

Also congratulate the person who beat you, and do it genuinely, even if you think they're an a-hole.

It's tough being the bigger person, but people are always watching how you react and no one likes a sore loser.

3. Remember there will be other opportunities

This might not have been your shot at the top spot, but sometimes holding on to the fact it wasn't meant to be can do wonders.

Just because someone pipped you to it, doesn't take away your level of skill and talent.

4. Celebrate small victories

Think about the Olympics. Most medallists are chuffed to get silver or bronze.

If you're this annoyed, it probably means you were second or third in the running, and that is still a good achievement. Be proud of that.

5. Learn from it

Why didn't you win? Is there something you can learn from this process. Turn bitterness into growth and be smug about just how well adjusted you are.

6. Move on

Don't spit in people's tea and plot their downfall, you're not that guy. So you didn't get it - move on with your life because dwelling on it won't change the outcome.

7. And if at first you don't succeed...

Then get your lazy arse out of bed and try again. Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all those clichés are true you know sailor, so go get 'em.
