Subject: Why I keep struggling with my disabilities at work
Hello all, I was just wondering if there are many people struggling witrh disabilities as I am.
I have recenly deteriorated in my health . My knees are giving me a lot of pain but cannot get surgery until I am at least 50 (only 39) . But more importantly I have been in hospital with my spine . My lower disks in my spine are bulged giving me a mechanical pain. In hospital I was got to walk again with a zimmer frame and wheelchair. Now 2 months on I am back walking again .But struggling in pain. My company (for whom I have worked for them for nearly 5 years)has got me back to work phased back to work doing 3 days a week . Problem is they have stopped me being on full pay and only pay me for when I am in.Even though my contract says full pay for 1st 6 months then half pay for 6 months. It also states that they can change my contract when they wish... Thing is I am the breadwinner for my house as my OH is only earning £180 a week. I have a lot of disability aids i.e stairlift and bed hoists etc... So I struggle to get out of bed and go to work evn though in agony . Because I need the money to keep my head above water.People say oh if you were that bad you will leave but beleive me having no money and being in debt causes a whole lot of pain. If I don't work and I'm in pain the combo brings on depression , so I think to keep fighting each day by going to work.My OH in my opinion does not seem to be doing enough to look for another job . He is a HGV class 2 driver. With no massive skills whereas I am a SHEQ officer. Luckily spending time in my office . As my company will not allow me on site driving my forklift truck yet. They also won't let me do more than 3 days a week yet. So my wages are down, purely due to the fact that they not paying my full wage.I have also just moved house so that I had a property with a stairlift and downstairs loo. So need money to decorate property and buy carpets. I used to do all of my own decorating but now finding it hard and have to pay people to do it for me. More Costs!

Hi, have you asked for a Access to Work assessment? You can apply for 'Access to Work' independantly but I would recommend speaking to your HR section and let them know you are having difficulties. They may be able to help you with the application or support suggestions.
