Subject: parent in hospital
My mum got rushed into hospital over the bank holiday while I was away I am back now and I am going to see her tonight. She was critical on Monday and is not concious but is now stable and not on the very serious list anymore. Her partner has been with her every day so far, I know he wants to be there.

This may sound really stupid and sounds really heartless but I don't know how often to go up and see her, she could be in hospital a while and to get there is an 80 mile round trip so I can only go after work so by the time I get there its already late and to go every day I would be exhausted.

I just feel so guilty if I don't go most days if not every day, the other problem I have is I am an only child so have no sisters/brothers to fall on for support, my b/f has been great but its not the same as a sister or brother and it puts even more pressure on me as I feel I have to deal with a lot on my own.

Like I said I feel terrible for even thinking this. How often have any of your guys visited when a very close member of family has been in hospital a while?

I'm not sure of how close you are to your mum but if this was my mum I would be there every day, for as long as I could.

Can you get some compassionate leave off work?

I'm a temp so i don't get any compasionate leave, if I don't work I don't earn anything and I need the money. I went to see her last night she was asleep and it was so hard I could not stay long to see all the machines and see all the other people in there and the noise it was quite distressing.
