A traditional wedding scares the crap out of me.....my Dad isn't alive and I cant stand the fact that I would have that gap in a traditional wedding. I dont want people I work with, family I hardly see etc watching me.

So, I would love a Vegas style wedding (with class).

None of these are my ideal wedding, but show the relaxed style I would love.

Hi everyone

My dream wedding is simple - my family and my friends having a good time and eating loads of good food!

Hot sunny weather will be a plus as well for the photos and to follow my family tradition of hot and sunny days for weddings!

I'm actually planning my 40th which is in 14 months so I will keep the theme simple and have a really good do on the day.

I feel completely the same as you, the thought of the 'traditional' wedding scares me. All the pressure, expectations and expense would just make me want to run away screaming. I’m getting married in Vegas in a couple of months time, we’re just having a couple of really close friends come out with us so it’s more like a holiday were we just happened to tie the know whilst we’re away.

We’re having a reception when we get back, nothing major, just an excuse for our friends and family to get together and for us all to have a good time.

Having said that I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a big white wedding if that’s what you both want. It’s just definitely not for me.

I never had a wedding idea in my mind. I always assumed it would be quite big, if I did marry someone Jewish - I did, and it was!

The only vague idea I had was it would be nice to be married in my parents' garden in a marquee, but I knew that would limit guests to about 100, and wouldn't be possible with Mr Z's side. Oh, and I was utterly determined not to marry in white, and I didn't.

I liked the idea of an early start, early finish wedding, with an afterparty for friends, but as we ended up outside London, that wasn't possible.

If I do get married, the actual ceremony will be very small - parents and siblings only. The idea of loads of people all gawping at me is my worst nightmare and I believe a marriage should be as personal and private as possible.

Then I'd have a huge party for everyone with loads of dancing and drinking!

I had it [/vom]. I didnt have many preconceptions prior to getting engaged, other than I wanted loads of family and friends there, and it would be nice to get married in the church i went to with my mum when I was growing up, in my home town. I knew that was a big ask though, so it wasnt something i totally set my heart on.

We had a fab winter's day in november (i *heart* the period between september and christmas), got married in the church, then had a reception in a hotel just up the road, with loads of friends and family, and lots of fun. It was brilliant. Danced the night away to all the mobile disco classics. It was lush. I also got to indulge my passion for craftiness, and made loads of bits and pieces... it was one big design project to me!

What really sticks in my mind from the day that summed it up was one of my husbands old rowing friends air guitaring on the dance floor with my bridesmaids boyfriend- they'd never met before... i just love love loved seeing everyone we knew and loved in one room, all having a good time, together- its a once in a life time experience, and something i'd thought about loads on the run up to the wedding.

God. that was a right Vommy rant wasnt it. I must have come over all mooshy today.

Herro. Bit of free time so I thought I'd answer this as I'm currently unmarried, and living with my partner of 2 years and impatient for a proposal!

I have a few ideas, but most of all I know what I don't want. I don't want anything uber formal with top hats and satin bridesmaid dresses and church hymns and I definitely don't want red patterned carpets and modern dining at a chain hotel and hundreds ofposed for photos outside the venue. Just not for me.

Mostly, because although I love organising stuff and would be really excited about doing it, I just don't want anything that formal or traditional, we're not religious, and the main point of the day would be about me and my OH saying our vows, we're also busy people and I refuse to get stressed about making and matching placecards/invitations/flowers/outfits etc etc. And my mother would take over

Jeans and a nice blouse at a registry office with a couple of mates as witnesses, then off to the pub (big pub) with family and friends for a buffet and a friend running the disco with possibly a karaokee sing along as well. I hate being centre of attention and so does OH.

Oh my God, Little Stinker, you just described what was in my head! Don't really know how I wandered on to this forum really, not at this stage at all, but replied to a post and it got me thinking that if I did get married one day, I'd like a day like the one you described - quirky, Christmassy, and most importantly, filled with love and fun, and without hassle and stress. I don't know if I will get married one day, but if I ever do, then I would want it to be like that!

I know what I would like:

A lovely hen do with a night out in a club, balloons and general fun. For the wedding I would love a pretty ivory dress, a lovely country house and all my friends and family there and his friends and family. I would make a playlist of all my and his fave songs and put them on my ipod, rather than have a band. I would get people I know to play songs, and I would write a poem for my other half which I know already in my head.

I know I would love planning it and I have never been made a fuss of at any point in my life, so to have someone doing my make up and hair and a lovely dress would be divine( gooey)

I loved reading all the different weddings that people would like / have had - I think they all sound wonderful.

I don't want a 'big' wedding, I just want it to be special... probably not many guests, just those people my OH and I know and love... family and then the really good and true friends... no one who we wouldn't be comfortable saying vows in front of... and hopefully we'd be able to have all guests come to the ceremony and reception. Personally I don't have 'loads' of friends or even family, so keeping things intimate would make me happiest. I think my OH feels the same.

What I would really love, is to get married outdoors - probably in woodland... I'm not sure if anyone will remember Susan's wedding to Mike in the woods (Desperate Housewives)? Well, when I saw that I was so cross with her because she'd pretty much stolen my dream wedding!! Although I think I've come to terms with the fact that it's probably not practical to get married outside in this country and I wouldn't want to go abroad... but a girl can dream! The time of year I'd love the most is late summer into autumn... when everything looks golden. I also love the idea of an outdoorsy reception, so some kind of open-sided tent type creation with an outdoor place to dance a frolic... and lots of lights... twinkling and pretty. Music, good food (something rustic and Italian probably - I like the idea of spreading each table with platters of cheese, meat, olives, bread...).

I also want a cheese wedding cake... so 2 or more whole cheese rounds stacked into tiers and then decorated with vines, ivy and grapes... I don't like occasional cakes and I love cheese, so to me it makes sense (plus I love the idea of all the guests tucking into cheese and biscuits instead of cake). My OH wasn't very keen on the idea, but recently he found a list I'd made (when I was feeling sad) of things that made me happy and that I was thankful for... I found him howling with laughter because I'd put cheese on there and it was so close to the top that the only things above it were him and family... and after that he said he understood how much I love cheese, so I could have my 'crazy person' cake if it made me that happy.

I think those are the only three things I really focus on when I imagine my dream wedding - the people who I love, being outside in nature and cheese! The rest is negotiable...

Oddly enough, i'm planning this at the moment! i never thought i would be, but hey ho, that's just the way life is sometimes. I've always said that i wanted a Sandals (as in the resort not the footwear) wedding on a beach somewhere, but as my mum said she wanted to have a huge reception upon our return and myself n my intended couldn't agree on the destination, that idea flew out of the window! So, church wedding in my home town it is then.

Next on the list was the reception. After looking at a few hotels, and immediately having to pick my jaw up off the floor after hearing about their "low" priced packages, we had decided that we were going to have an intimate meal with immediate family and then a reception in the evening. My ever-thinking dad objected to this idea. Apparently, no-one can be bothered to return to an evening reception after going home. So, we were then back to square one, with my dad suggesting various stately homes, which i would probably have to sell one of my kidneys..no...one of my children to be able to afford! I decided on the local leisure centre, which has a suite for events. I discussed this with my intended and he agreed. The look on my parents face was a picture, but that said...the deposit was paid today!

Our big day is next September, and i'm fairly sure that my mum will try to amend certain bits during the planning, but all said and done i will hopefully have the day of my dreams
