Could do with some opinions please on the following situation....I work in a cake shop/sml bakery here in Germany, I've worked there for nearly 10 years, we are a team of 5, and all get on really well and always have done, they are my friends as well as workmates. 3 weeks ago our boss sent a 'newbie' to us for training/trial, she is intended for another shop in another area. I noticed straight away that our 2 German collegues (Team is the 2 Germans, 2 russians & me) were acting very funny, I found myself lumbered with the 'newbie' who is lazy, rude, disinterested in everything & is rude to the customers as everything is too much trouble for her. I told her that as far as I was concerned she was welcome to sit & drink coffee all day, then when our boss realizes she's learned nothing & lets her go, then no skin off my back..!! Now it has come to light that my 2 German collegues & this trainee went to school together & she bullied them both none stop as kids & teenagers, she had moved away from here, but is now obviously back. Because of this, I got lumbered training her, now come monday our boss wants me to tell him whether she is worth keeping on or not. I planned to put him in the picture completely, but my 2 collegues, who for some reason are still scared of this woman, want me to tell him she's ok, and said this morning that if I care about them at all, i'd do this, they think if she isn't taken on she would blame them, and that she'd be going to a different shop anyway to work, but it's not that simple if anyone was sick at our place she could get sent to us to work, so I take the view that I should tell our boss the truth, but my 2 collegues are begging me not to saying she'd make their lives a misery again. What shall I do, i do care about my collegues, of course I do, but i'm not prepared to give in to this bully..... Thank you for any thoughts on this...
tell the truth. they're adults and need to stand up to her and be professional.
I agree tell the truth. I think if you lied and she was taken on she is more likely to make your colleagues lives a misery than if she is found out that she is indeed useless. Plus I doubt anyone else would really want her there given her attitude.

You know this, and I know this, but somehow 2 48year old women have turned into gibbering wrecks, thanks Lau too, I have the W/E off, but monday I'm going to get stuck into this. Put this question on ep too & 8 people said exactly the same. I'm just a bit p***ed off cos it's always been brill & friendly working there, and now I'm gonna end up in the epicentre of yet another row. Lau is right, I can't imagine the other collegues would be tickled to have her either
she hasnt threatened your colleagues has she? if she hasnt, then tell the truth, if she has, tell the police.
i think you need to tell your colleagues that they are interfering with your work and the company by asking for her to be kept on, im not quite sure i understand their thinking as they are more likely to end up in trouble with this woman if she stays, they are clearly frightened of her though but it might be worth asking your boss to make it clear it was his decision if he choses to sack her

This is a small town and those that were born here all tend to know each other from school, and apparently she was a little %&*$# then, now she's a big %&*$#, my 2 ruskie colleagues agree with me which is good, but I knew there was something odd when the other 2 went all out to avoid working /training the trainee, I will speak to our boss on monday morning. I don't know if she's threatened them, I can't make much sense out of it TBH, that they're still bothered by her, school was along time ago for them, they're both 48 ffs. My pet peeve is bullies pity no bugger bothered to tell me this sooner
bullying is horrible, she cant be rewarded by default for being a bully and keep her job. get rid!

Going to..... I have swapped shifts for tomorrow with Anke (1 of the frightened colleagues) so will send for boss then, can just see the other ones face when she's expecting Anke & I turn up.....hmm think the oven might need a scrub, and maybe the windows.....after all those that can dish it out can take it back (paragraph 1, verse 2 - Honeychiles law)
This person sounds like a liability any way - rude, lazy, disinterested; it'd be unprofessional to pretend other wise - and your neck would be on the block if the boss is counting on you to make a judgment o if she should have a job long term. Good luck - and hide a rancid cream cake in her handbag when she's on her way out the door!
