Subject: spiritualist churches - what to expect?
Hello - my first post in H+S but I hope to be around here a bit more in future.

I've always been very open to tarot readings, clairvoyance, spirit world etc, and have decided to pursue this interest and see if it develops any further.

I'm interested in attending a spiritualist church but I'm wondering if their services are based around religious teachings i.e. quotes and talks directly from the Bible. I have searched a few old threads on this board and have seen a general order of service but I'm hesistant to attend as I've attended Christian churches in the past and had a less than favourable reaction to them.

I live in South London so if anyone can recommend a good church to attend, that would be lovely - may make it seem less daunting if I do decide to go!

Thanks,
kb.x

I'd also be very interested into going to a spiritualist church! I am fascinated by spiritualism and religion. There would be no harm in attending a mass in such a church, just to see how you react to the teachings. You don't have to commit to anything, unless you're 100% sure that is what you want. And don't go to any church that tells you otherwise or teaches beliefs that people who don't go to church will burn in hell. No true religion would force you to believe something that you didn't want to believe.

Spiritualist churches are usually Christian Spiritualist Churches, and they have a service with prayers, as well as a demonstration of clairvoyance and/or healing. They are very friendly and welcoming. Try it, you may like it.

Thank you ladies - I think I definitely will try and go along to a service and see where it all sits with me.
I'm sure an open mind will serve me well - when I do go I'll report back on how I found it!

Thanks again.x

Hiya,

The point is not to expect anything. Different people have different reactions to the spiritual church it just depends on your level of belief. I have attended several Spiritual Church services in Scotland and although similar to Religious church services they are more informal, normally held in a community centre and the emphasis on being there is not to preach or convert the attendee into spiritualism but to share in the joy and the love shared by thoose in the room. This may sound a bit hippy but trust me when you walk into the church and when the guest spiritualist is up giving a reading to the room, the atmosphere is electric with anticipation and involvement and then joy as the person recieving the reading has been contacted and a message given. Normally there are regular church goers and spiritualists and a guest spiritualist is invited to do a reading to the floor, they sing hyms and prayers are said. In some cases there is an opportunity for individual healing also. The main feeling from attending a spiritualist church is that of Community, you can walk into a church and sit down one a one off basis and nobody would stare or alienate you - If you go and you don't like it then you don't need to go back. If you are going however in hope of a reading only, please don't as the sheer number of people attending a spiritualist church may overwhelm a message getting to you, it's best to sit back, be patient and experience other peoples joy as they recieve a message and can take on board what the spiritualist is saying.

Let me know how you get on.

Louise xx
