Subject: Presence in my house - quite fun
??? I have a presence in my house. It's a man and I think he's of about age 40 and all I know is that he wears dark trousers and shoes. He seems to make his presence felt when I'm doing the hoovering. The first time it happened - I was hoovering the stairs and I looked up and gasped as I "knew" there was someone watching me from the top of the stairs - but of course, nobody there. The second time it happened was when I saw out of the corner of my eye these "dark trousers and shoes" but he'd gone by the time I focussed on where he was standing. My OH has experienced a cold spot in this area and there are definitely no draughts around. I've not had any cold feelings but lately, when I've been hoovering I get a very strong sense that I'm being "watched". Almost as if this man is fascinated by me hoovering We've also had the usual doors slamming, footsteps heard on the living room ceiling when both in the kitchen (3 storey house). I'm not frightened, it just makes me that the presence likes watching me hoover - typical man then Incidentally my neighbour has had several incidents in her house and is scared to death - I've been in her house and I feel nothing. She thinks it's her OH's nan getting annoyed when she's sitting down and not doing jobs I'm going to leave my "man" alone for now. He's not hurting us and I think he's just "visiting" to be honest. The house had a strong sense of happiness when it became ours and it continues to feel happy now that we've been there for 5 months Sorry for rambling slightly - I just fancied posting on here. Oh and we'll be getting a digital camera soon so am hoping to get some pics of "orbs" and such like. Already have an "orb" on my OH at a picture taken at a wedding last year. Very cool

Lil Honeybun, I think it's nice that you feel a presence in your house but aren't scared by it, as you say it seems like he is just visiting you and obviously doesn't mean any harm. As long as your house feels safe and nice to you then I would just be pleased you have some company while doing your chores!

For a few months after my mum died, my dad swore he could feel her presence in the house. Little things like if you were in lower level of the house, you swore you could hear someone walking across the floor above. Sounds like a cupboard opening and different house-type noises. I can't say I heard or felt anything when I was visiting, but my dad wasn't bothered by it. In fact, I think he took some comfort from the experience.

I thinks its wonderful for you, and I cant see it being a dark presence as you are not scared or intimidated (but of course this may say more about you than about him ) Have you any idea on the background of former owners of your house, it may be interesting to find out a little more? I think if your gut feeling is that the house is a 'happy' house then it is the right home for you

when i was 5 we exchanged houses with someone and on the day of the move, the people we exchanged with, their son died in a motor bike accident. i felt a presence the whole time i lived there (11 years) i also heard a guitar being strummed in the middle of the night, and footsteps on the stairs. most disturbing was things being moved.

I stayed in a house some years ago that had a very definate unhappy feel about it.As soon as you walked in you could feel it. Also things would be moved and lights would go off.It was quite spooky and was glad to leave there.I could quite happily live with a happy presence but not that.

I seem to get vibes and for years I used to wonder what it was. It's only since I hit 25 and got older that things started to make sense to me. In my mother's house I used to get a feeling of people shouting - very nastily - but only in the bathroom. I found out about a month ago, when chatting to my mother about it, that a family that lived there during the 40s/50s were not very happy. The man had gone to serve in WW2 and his wife had been having an affair whilst he was away. When he returned, he found out and my mother can remember her mother saying that there used to be terrible rows in the house. And who knows the reason why I felt this in the bathroom and not anywhere else in the house is unknown to me. But the bathroom did used to be a bedroom (in the days of outside loos and tin baths in front of the fire). It might have been their bedroom? Who knows. I have come very close to attending a spiritualist church but something keeps holding me back. My OH's mum is supposed to be having a "psychic evening" and I will go when she's arranged it. I'm not afraid at all. I will just have to remember to go in with an open mind and not hope that there is a message or something for me.

When my mum brought me home from the hospital as a baby strange things began to happen in the house. At first no-one said anything to the others(mum, dad, 2 much older bros, 2 uncles & my sis) for fear of being laughed at, apparently(I was only a teeny babe & knew nothing of this) this went on for a few months until my oldest brother brought the subject up at dinner time one day. It seems that the 'main thing' happening was a feeling of being pushed back when climbing the stairs, the further up the stairs they got, the stronger the pressure they felt on their chest pushing them back, they said it became almost unbearable as they reached the top step. Being catholic my mother decided it was time to get the priest in to bless the house, he came in & started in the living room, on going into the hall to bless that area he stopped, & told my family that it would probably do more harm than good to continue with the blessing, he left advising my family they would be better off finding somewhere else to live. My folks applied for another house & were prepared to take any move, they were offered somewhere almost immediately in another region of the country & decided to take it(I was 6 months old at this point & the 'pressure' at the top of the stairs was getting stronger as time went on). When the council checked the house before allowing my family to move on, they insisted that the wallpaper in one of the bedrooms needed replacing, so my father & 2 older bro's set to redecorating the room. When they stripped off the paper from the bedroom walls they discovered a small section on one of the walls that looked like it had been previously opened up & then plastered over. One of my brothers wanted to try & open it up but my father insisted they just repaper the room & get out ASAP. My family never had any more problems of this nature after we left that house, it's been suggested that a small child coming into a place can start up strange/paranormal activity, I don't know & I have no memory of it(obviously) but it certainly put the 'willies' up my family. I'd like to say that I try & keep an open mind about things as far as possible, however, there is 'something' in the house where I am at the moment, but it's more 'mischevious' than scary/problematic, much of the time things will go amiss, I know exactly where I left the item in question but when I look it's not there, I go to another room, come back & bang there it is where I already looked & it wasn't(heehee very funny lol). I've also quite often caught glimpses of 'someone' peeking around the door of the livingroom & bathroom from the hall, but it's more a comforting thing than something fearful so it doesn't bother me. It's more than likely that it's my imagination anyway:)

I had a very scary experience the other night...it probably has some explanation but I can't for the life of me think what it could be. I woke up at 6am to go to the toilet but before I got out of bed I felt someone sit down on the edge of it, about halfway up, then a few moments later stand up again. I didn't see anyone in the room or hear anything. Later on I think I felt a similar thing but I may have been half asleep so I can't be sure. The first time though I am absolutely convinced I was awake at the time. I was terrified and got up straight away to turn the light and the TV on. It was a while before I got back to sleep again. The thing is, I've had the experience of pressure on my bed before, as if someone or something were sitting on it, but it seems that I only thought I was awake but straight after woke up for real (it's a very confusing experience!). The difference is, as I've said, that I'm positive I was awake, because I was aware of thinking, "must be half asleep again..." and sort of mentally double checking. I wasn't! Sorry to ramble on, it's probably nothing, but while I've always believed in ghosts I've never had any sort of freaky experience...

Hi this is my first post. Hopefully not the last since these seem interesting threads! Anyway, I had a weird experience a few years ago... weird and quite scary, but at the same time it did change my way of thinking. Before this I had always been interested in ghosts and hauntings but never actually experienced one, and always had a small skeptical part of my mind saying, "Maybe people just imagine these things". I should add that I am generally skeptical; if someone tells me something and I am curious then I usually go and do my own homework on it. Don't Believe The Hype! I was about 21 years old and had just moved back to my home town after living in London for a while. My brother rented a large house with a group of friends and so I went to stay there until I got stuff sorted. The house belonged to an old man who rented it out to anyone who would come up with 500 cash at the end of each month. It was an old three-storey Victorian house with lots of rooms and in a bad state of disrepair. The people my bro lived with were all friends from college and all very young - the girl who organized everything in the house was about 16. One of the empty rooms - the Red Room - was really spooky. The walls were painted deep red and the room had a creepy feeling as soon as you walked in. Nobody ever used to hang out in that room. Ity was like there was someone stood there all the time, invisible, but filling the rom with a malignant vibe. You know when someone is really angry but doesnt say anything, just stands there.. it was like that. A black cloud of negative energy. After a while a guy moved into the Red Room and repainted it. He was a positive kind of guy and the presence seemed to move upstairs to Alex's room. Alex was the girl who organized the house, kept track of bills, and collected the rent. Her room, which was where people hung out a lot, suddenly began to have the same dark feeling as had been downstairs. People would come in, feel the presence, and leave very quickly. One day something unbelievable happened. I was sat on a small rug on the floor and I began to feel this presence manifesting. It was a bit like the air before a thunderstorm - charged up. As I sat there I began to feel that it was focusing on ME. It was a strange and frightening feeling. It was shocking - it was very real and I remember thinking "what the hell is going on?!" Then I began to feel a kind of pressure. Not really like a physical pressure, but kind of as if the air was somehow closing in around me, but it was happening in my mind. I was afraid. I thought, this is some kind of energy force - ghost - spirit - who knows - I sense malice towards me! I have to fight it! And so I imagined that rising from the edges of the rug was an impenetrable barrier, that whatever this thing was could not pass. I mentally directed a message at it, saying "Whatever you are, you're not alive. And I am! You'll never be stronger than me. You're not alive!" I had to concentrate to the exclusion of all else on the "invisible barrier" and directing these thoughts. And as I did the opposing force seemed to grow stronger. It was like a mental struggle. I could feel my barrier being under heavy pressure! It lasted for what felt like ages but was in fact no more than a couple of minutes. Then I felt the presence begin to weaken. I maintained my mental defences, and after a couple more minutes it seemed to fade and vanish. Afterwards I was like, "What the hell was that all about? That's the freakiest thing ever! What the f..." I didnt mention it to anybody except my brother. It was certainly one of the weirdest things to ever happen to me. I thought about this incident, which was never repeated, and it made me think that maybe a lot of things that people had described and I had taken with a grain of salt, were truer than I had thought. I also experienced the feeling that telling people, they wouldnt appreciate the full scaryness and reality of it when it happened. So usually I don't. But that is a 100% true story.

This very thing has happened to me. When I was living at my parents on several occasions I would feel someone sitting on the bottom of the bed. At first I thought it was the cat jumping on the bed but when I opened my eyes and saw the cat wasn't even in the room - bit scarey. But the more it happened, the less afraid I got. It happened quite regularly when I was just about to drop off and I've heard that this a prime time for sensing things like that.

Great stories, all very interesting. I have not had a ny sense of ghosts in my houses, although I was terrified of them when I was a child for some reason, I wouldn't really mind these days. I have had the 'sitting on the bed' sensation though, I went to stroke the cat who'd just landed on the bed but there was no cat - may have been the half asleep thing but I was so sure I felt it. If anyone is having trouble with a spirit in their house & would like some help, a friend of mine is a medium & can perform exorcism. This is not scary or harmful, most of the time the spirit is simply unaware that they are dead & need help to leave this spiritual plane & move to the next. They tend to get cross if they can't make themselves heard & this causes negative energy. PM me if you want some details, she also has a large network of people around the country who may be able to help. I wonder if the dark trouser man has never seen a hoover before & is therefore fascinated?

I recall staying in a cottage once that belongs to our local pub (before we bought our house and needed time together;) and we both worked in the pub so had access to the rooms etc. Well this cottage was supposedly haunted and everyone spoke about the man who had hung himself in it at the top of the stairs. We had other things on our mind! Anyway we had a wonderfull night of passion and got dressed to leave. The stairs come right into the bedroom which is the only upstairs room, so we headed for the stairs and MrC who has never had back problems and had been swinging from chandeliers 10 minutes earlier just could not walk. His whole body just seized up and I had to grab him. After about 10 minutes we managed to get him down the stairs (think frankenstien type walking) and out of the cottage. I took him straight home thinking something must be seriously wrong. By the time we got there (5 mins away) he was totally fine. Never happened since. I still believe that was some kind of suffering the symptoms of someone hanging.
