Subject: Suncream for cats?
My query is to do with suncream. I know that white cats (he's got a few dark patches but his ears are white) can be prone to cancer especially on their ears. With horses I have used normal sunblock on their noses in the past, but is human sunscreen safe to use on cats?

I would hate for him to get sick by me not protecting him, but he went crazy grooming himself when I put the flea drops on the back of his neck the other day, so I'm a bit worried that he would groom and groom himself until he had got rid of the suncream anyway...

Any hints/tip would be great!

I've just googled a bit and it seems there are pet specific sunscreens, how easy it would be to get them I don't know and the highest SPF for cats that I can see is only 15. Having said that some protection is better than none.

I've also read about using sunscreen suitable for babies on pets but if he's going to be grooming himself like crazy he's bound to ingest it so I'm thinking that's not a good idea.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Yes, you can use human sunscreen on cats ears. I asked my vet when my little man was a kitten and he said it was fine to do so, and a lot safer than not using anything and I'm still doing so 10 years later with no problems.
I buy Soltan Once for kids and just apply it to the tips of his ears and let him out 15 mins later so I know he hasn't groomed it out before he settles down for a hard days sunbathing on the shed roof. You can use whichever one suits you but this one suits my cat http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?categoryParentId=4717&storeId=10052&productId=35647&callingViewName=&categoryId=49842&langId=-1&catalogId=11051

Thanks for your replies guys, I always like to go on a recommendation so CB I'm going to try that Soltan Once for kids and see what his reaction is!

I have a feeling he'll be less than impressed, but as you say Dekalin, some protection is better than none...
