Subject: My wee cat passed away suddenly in her sleep

Hi Folks,

I am normally Stardust but thanks to the changes it has decided to change me to my old username for some strange reason !?!?

Anyhow, really just need to get this out somewhere.

I had two cats, Chester 4 and Holly 3. Both housecats. Holly was always very healthy but sadly on Monday afternoon as I was on my way to London (from Glasgow) for work, my sister came over to stay and look after them and found Holly had passed away. She called me as I hit the airport and I was shocked and devastated. Luckily my boss has cats so agreed I could go home to sort things out. Didn't want my sis to have to deal with it,

Got home and my brother and Mum had come over and were both in floods. She was such a cheeky wee thing, very independant and very clumsy and funny. Everyone loved her. She looked really peaceful and I could tell she had been sleeping when it happened from how she was lying on the sofa.

We all cried buckets but I managed to pull myself together to go away. Back again tonight and it's weird but I can't accept she isn't here. Doesn't feel real. I know I must sound bonkers but it all feels so odd. Not upset or anything.

Chester is fine albeit a load more clingy but he was like that before she appeared on the scene and stole his thunder lol.

I have lost pets before but they have always been ill or old so kinda knew it was coming.

I'm so sorry, that must have been an awful shock for you. Have you any idea what caused it?

Hi Geri.

Thanks.

No, the vet asked if I wanted an autopsy and I said no. Didn't see the point at the time.

She looked perfect (no sign of anything wrong) so I can only assume it was her heart or something that went quickly. She seemed in good health and was her usual self that morning.

I am glad it was quick for her sake.

Sorry to hear this, Moggy, what a shock for you. It must be strange being back at home and getting used to the fact she's not there. Your boss sounds understanding so it was good you were able to get back to sort things out. It may take a bit of time for you to feel back to 'normal' again as my bro & his gf lost one of their cats to cancer last year and they're still sad about it.

Take care and hope you feel a bit better soon.

Her life may have been short, but she was obviously happy and well loved, and it sounds as though she didn't suffer.

Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Thanks Geri and Potion. Thanks for understanding too.

It does feel weird but I think that Chester being here makes it all easier. An empty flat would be much worse I think.

It might sound a bit odd (I wouldn't be admitting this if I hadn't had a couple of glasses of wine) but I always had a feeling from the day I picked her up that she wouldn't be with me long. I know that might sound maudlin but I don't mean it that way. I did make an extra effort to really enjoy her if that makes any sense.

My boy has been an angel and is very affectionate. He is OK and I think he is enjoying the one on one affection. Fickle little begger.

Yes am very pleased it seemed quick. She really did look very peaceful. She was very much loved and I felt lucky to have two such sweet and affectionate cats.

I have lost a cat before from a long illness and that was very traumatic so I can understand how your brother and sister felt Potion, it's not any easier when you know it is coming.

Am waffling after the wine but thank you for your posts, I really do appreciate them.

Aw, I don't know you Moggy but I'm so sorry to hear about your wee cat Holly. It's so traumatic losing a pet, and like you say, when they're not ill and it comes very suddenly like that, it's such a shock and very hard to get your head around.

I lost a dog very suddenly that way and it is difficult for your brain to catch up with what's actually happened - I hope you are ok and please take comfort from the fact that Holly was asleep while it happened.

It does help to have two - one of mine is very poorly, and I would just love to pick her up and give her a big cuddle, but she is not the cuddly type and would not appreciate it at all, so the other one is getting extra cuddles at the moment.
