My beautiful 12 year old cat Venus was put to sleep on Friday. She had lived with a heart murmur all her life and last year had an 'attack' where her lungs filled with fluid and she had to have oxygen for 24 hours. We always knew that it would happen again, but 15 months later, her breathing started to become laboured. The vet gave her more oxygen and a steroid injection which she hoped would help but within 24hours she had gone. She deteriorated very quickly on Friday morning and it was all very rushed.

I can't stop feeling guilty, guilty that she suffered, guilty that she isn't here anymore, guilty that i miss her

Don't feel guilty. You did the best you could for her, and it sounds like she had 12 happy years with you.

Of course you'll miss her. My boy was PTS in April and I still miss him terribley and cry for him a lot.

I know it's a cliche but time really does help to heal, and you'll soon be able to remember the happy times you had with Venus.

Don't feel guilty - she knew you loved her. Nothing different you could have done and its a sad fact that we do miss our cats terribly when they go, shows how much we cared for them. And 12 is not a bad age for a cat you know,
